England`s Stolen Children is a documentary that has recently been shown on French television which exposes the role of social services and local authorities, since the Children Act 1989, in removing children from their families through forced adoptions.
Those on the continent who have a different child protection system are shocked by what goes on in the United Kingdom: removing children on suspicion of present or future harm.
Some familiar figures appear in the documentary: John Hemming talks about adoption targets; Ian Josephs explains how he helps mothers to escape from the United Kingdom and Maggie Mellon tells how social work has moved from supporting families to `very much a risk situation`.
