(1) The United Nations are celebrating the International Day of Democracy
The UN General Assembly, in resolution A/62/7 (2007) encouraged Governments to strengthen national programmes devoted to the promotion and consolidation of democracy, and also decided that 15 September of each year should be observed as the International Day of Democracy.

John Penrose has launched the `Discovering Democracy Award`. It is an award for secondary schools that creates a positive culture of citizenship and democracy and helps develop youth participation in society ..The award is funded by the Cabinet Office.
(2) David Cameron`s concern about the refugee children .
After visiting refugees, David Cameron met Syrian and Lebanese children in Beirut to discuss bringing unaccompanied children into the UK. (From a tweet by James Landale.)
Brian Gerrish is quoted as saying: "It sends shivers down my spine."
"He has covered up child abuse, and now is going into an overseas country to get more vulnerable children. What do I think is going to happen to those children? They are just going to disappear."
(3) Another example of democracy in Britain - Melanie Shaw
Melanie Shaw, whistleblower and child abuse survivor, is going to be evicted from her council house tomorrow and no other housing organisation in the Nottingham area will accept her. (She is being evicted for being a criminal.) Obtaining a private let will be impossible too because private landlords do checks on the previous tenancy.
UK Column has been speaking to the Goddard Inquiry who said they would protect child abuse witnesses and survivors but there is a complete lack of interest.
[Note: The NSPCC are acting as a gatekeeper for the independent Inquiry; so when callers think they are talking to the Goddard Inquiry, they are actually talking to the NSPCC.]
Says Brian Gerrish: "We need millions of people to be pounding on the doors of local MPs in the Nottingham area who have done nothing - also the councillors, the housing authorities, etc. - for Melanie Shaw and all the other child abuse survivors."
(4) The International Development Committee and sustainable development:
Justine Greening was questioned by the International Development Committee which covers the topic of the refugee children at the beginning of the meeting.
"The International Development Committee questions the Secretary of State for International Development in their second evidence session for the inquiry into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)."
"This Agenda is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom. We recognise that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. All countries and all stakeholders, acting in collaborative partnership, will implement this plan."
