What is causing childhood obesity?

We are informed that nearly a quarter of children under five in the UK are overweight or obese.

Anybody seeking clarity in the following Telegraph article will find a jumble of ideas.

"Childhood obesity surges between ages of seven and 11"

"Fat parents to blame for childhood epidemic of obesity"

"Overweight and obese pupils reported more dietary restraint than their normal-weight peers "

"Trends of childhood obesity may be plateauing...However obesity weights among 11 to 15 year olds are still rising."
